How many machine shops are ISO 9001 or AS9100 certified?

We read the websites of 4,823 machine shops in 10 states. 28% say they hold ISO 9001 and 13% say they hold AS9100. Michigan has the highest ISO 9001 share, at 36%; California leads on AS9100, at 24%.

How we counted

A machine shop here is any business on Kerfgrid whose website lists a machining process such as CNC milling or turning: 4,823 shops in the 10 states we cover. A shop counts for a standard when its own website names it, for example "AS9100D certified". Vague wording such as "ISO compliant" does not count. A shop with locations in two states counts in both.

What this does not show

We did not check certificates against registrar databases, so these are claims, not verified certificates. A shop may hold a certificate and not mention it, so the true shares are probably higher. Shops without a website are not included.

Each state links to its machine shop list, where every shop shows the sentence behind each certification: Michigan, Illinois, California, Minnesota, Ohio, Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida, Washington, Colorado.
